A Fine antique French Violin, made Circa 1860

The top is made from two pieces of Spruce and shows Regular and straight grain lines widening towards the edges. The back is made from a single piece of faintly flamed maple, the curl descending from the left to the right. The ribs, neck and scroll are of the same wood, and original to the instrument.  The varnish is of an orange-brown color on a golden ground.

The violin is in a good condition, with just a few worm works at the upper left of the top, under the fingerboard and on some edges, which have been filled eith a sort of wood paste. The violin has been revised and is setup ready to play.

The violin has a good deep mature sound, with plenty of power and projection. A nice violin suited to all the repertoire.
