Fine antique German Violin made in Mittenwald, circa 1800. The top, made from a single piece of spruce, and shows narrow and straight grain lines. The back is one piece of deeply flamed maple, the curl descending from left to right. Ribs from same flamed maple. The neck and scroll are from plain wood, and original to the violin. The varnish is entirely original and shows some craquelures, is of an orange brown colour, on a golden ground. This is a very fine German violin 200 plus years old.

The violin is in repaired playing condition. It has some repairs on top, ( nothing to sound post or bass bar ), the neck has been reset, and the scroll pegbox shows doubling at the cheeks. This repair has been done a long time ago, and while not so pretty, is solid. There is also a chip on the scroll, with a small piece of wood knocked out.

The violin has a wonderful charming patina. The tone woods are superb, and the plates are carved thin, giving it a most beautiful voice.

Setup includes new rosewood /bone pegs, rosewood tailpiece, with bone fret, a new sound post and Despaiau bridge and a new set of Thomastik Dominant strings.

The most important point, the sound.

Violin has a wonderful deep and mature sound, extremely warm, powerful, and is very responsive. Very even across the strings, in fact a superb concert violin that will allow you the most complete repertory.

This is a very fine concert German violin, from c1800.
