’57 Classic pickups
The ES-339 aims to capture the vintage tone and feel of the golden era Gibsons. To achieve this lofty goal, it’s powered by a pair of Gibson’s ’57 Classic pickups. A re-creation of the classic “Patent Applied For” humbucker, the ’57 Classic produces warm, velvety tones with rich harmonics. In the bridge position, the ’57 Classic+ pickup utilizes overwound coils to add a little extra bite to the vintage tone. In addition to the pickups, the hand-wired tone circuit ensures that each pickup’s tone is transmitted perfectly. If you like PAF pickups, you’ll love the ’57 Classics.

Gibson's secret weapon 339 awaits fame by associat
By: Mark Twang on 9 January 2026Having owned a 70's es 335 I always said imagine if Gibson made one with a narrower body but still wider (and lighter!) than a Les Paul. Years later they did. The ES 339 is an extremely versatile semi hollow. Great sustain, feel and tones at fingertips for Blues, Rock, Jazz, Funk and Country. It drives Fender valve amps and is comfy to sit in lounge chair and practise. I had 2 x epi 339s before graduating to the Memphis Gibson ES 339 its awesome no dead notes, no fret buzz, frets and action perfect and tuneomatic bridge takes care of intonation. I like the lead input on the side ala LP. The only missing link is a big name player working the audience with a 339, I bet there is a woman out there that will be the first and hell watch the demand meter go off the dial.
