Rare Old Violin Labelled Eurious Ceruti facit Cremonse anno 1839 EFC
A Fine and interesting Violin, Labelled
Eurious Ceruti
facit Cremonse anno 1839 EFC
The 1839 date looks pretty right. It has had a neck graft and has a wedge under the fingerboard.
I do not profess to be an expert on authentication violins, so will leave that to you experts out there. Violin is definately hand Made, NOT a trade instrument
The violin has a lot of repaired damages. As can be seen on the top, several repairs, all experly done.
Beautiful one piece back, with one crack running north to south. Beautifully carved, deeply scolloped towards the bee stings.
Pegbox has been rebuilt, and grafted
The violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including a French Aubert bridge, and a set of Evah Pirazzi strings.
In the right hands, this violin will really sing. does look a bit beat up, but that ads character, and for an instrument just shy of 200 years old, it looks great to me.
