A Capo with Rock-solid Intonation

Slap the Shubb C7 Partial Capo on your steel-string guitar, and you’ll enter a whole new world of sonic exploration. This capo skips your guitar’s outside string, while covering the next three. You can use the C7 on either side of your guitar’s neck (2-3-4 or 5-4-3) — all without buzz. This capo’s patented over-center locking action ensures smooth operation and unrivaled ease of use. Its soft rubber pad works like a fingertip, while its closing action is engineered like your hand, so the capo doesn’t pull your guitar’s strings off center — no retuning necessary. The C7 Partial Capo is made of plain, non-plated brass, giving it a vintage, rustic-like appearance. That said, if you polish it, it shines like gold. Small, stylish, and unobtrusive, the Shubb C7b is an easy way to experiment with alternate tunings.

Partial capo-ing is not open tuning

The Shubb C7 Partial Capo skips your guitar’s outside string and covers the next three; either 2-3-4 or 5-4-3 (depending on which side of the neck you apply it to). It’s important to note; however, that this isn’t the same thing as open tuning. If you install the capo on your guitar’s bass side, for example, the end result is EBEABE, which boasts the same relationship as open DADGAD tuning, a full step higher (it’s kind of like an emulation of DADGAD tuning). But unlike open tuning, which affects every note on your guitar’s fretboard, the C7 doesn’t affect any notes above it — only the open fifth, fourth, and third strings are affected. This is easily demonstrated by barring above the capo — it’s like the capo isn’t even there. This enables you to play up and down the fretboard in standard tuning, while benefitting from the EBEABE open turning.

Engineered to work like the human hand

Most capos muck with your intonation — you have to retune your instrument every time you install one. That’s because fingerboards are made for fingers, not capos. But, thanks to Shubb, this is no longer a problem. Shubb capos employ a soft rubber pad that works like your fingertip. Consequently, they don’t forcefully bend your instrument’s strings over its frets. Likewise, the capo’s closing action is similar to that of your hand, so it doesn’t pull your strings off center. This eliminates the need to retune your instrument after installing the capo. What’s more, Shubb capos are a breeze to use — one flip of a lever locks it securely in place and removes it just as easily. Fast, easy installation and rock-solid intonation — what more could you ask for? These capos have remained popular for nearly 40 years.
